Friday, October 31 7:00 p.m. neon>campobase presents in Bologna an exhibitive project that arises from the exhibition "die Queerulanten innen/außen", held in Vienna from December 2006 until January 2007 in the independent space ‘auto’ (www.parking-lot.org). The exhibition – which in Italian is called “i queerelanti” – does not re-present the same structure and works shown in the Viennese exhibition, but is rather the selected and amplified continuation of the latter. The concept developed in this proposal is that of giving a dynamics to the multiplicity of artistic positions in connection with a series of queer and queer-related thematic fields. With regards to the exhibition held in Vienna, the Italian edition was conceived as a work in progress, thus overlapping the already-exhibited works with new artists, works, films, and video clips, and privileging the choice of an interdisciplianary operative model. The exhibition is part of the intense schedule of the “Gender Bender” festival, October 28 – November 2, 2008 (www.genderbender.it). In particular, a preview of the exhibition in the presence of the curators and several artists will take place Friday, October 31 at 7:00 p.m., while on Saturday, November 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the course of the opening reception of the exhibition, there will be a special projection of Monica Bonvicini and Jan Ralske (Berlin)’s video: “Staub” (Polvere), 2003, DVD, Projection, 7 min. The thematic/conceptual fields are: The (de)constructive nature of sexual identity, heterosexual matrices, transidentity, “I”, inter-subjectivity, performativity as a subversive act, classification of the races, classification, the discussion of biologism, paradox(es), hypertext, hate crimes, the competition of the mise-en-scène of sexual and ethnic differences, the margin of maneuvering for the subject, analysis of conversation, fields of association, synesthesia, differentialism, cyborgs, feminine masculinity, masculine femininity, heterosexual lesbian males, butches, male lesbians, female gays, butch butches, femme femmes, biological males, … spaces, feminism, inter-discourse, reproduction of cultural stereotypes, “original”, “copy”, gratitude, blackness, whiteness, interracial colors, when the society moved- …, patchwork “identity”, operative tools, translation, transfer, pre-trans … post trans- …, translocation, political activism, transformation, testosterone junkies, body fascism, totalitarianism, search for cultural constructions of spaces and borders, networking, offspace. “I queerelanti” is an attempt to amplify the fields in play around the constructions of sexuality and identity, relating itself to the methods and process of representation in the artistic system. In the exhibition there will likewise be presented many works in the sphere of different media, from video to photography, from drawing to installation. Some examples of the works exhibited: the autobiographical poster of Jakob Lena Knebl that recounts the various phases of sexual identity of the artist herself from infancy until today. The body as instrument between gesturing, ritual, and mise-en-scène of themselves in the photographic works of Matthias Herrmann. The capsizing/turnover of the sexual genders in hip-hop culture in Christine Lang’s music video, interpreted by Quio. The serigraphies of Kerstin Dreschsel with fantasies taken from lesbian porn. The video-installation of Gitte Villesen where Jesssie Tandberg – a Danish transsexual who recounts misadventures and dreams in a small provincial town – is interviewed. The subversive game of Daniela Comani, who utilizes heterosexual stereotypes to reconstruct scenes of the daily life of couples, where she herself plays both roles. A DVD version of the mythic super 8 films of Hans Scheirl that, at the beginning of the 1980s, already proposed themes such as sexuality and gender. Artists: Dorothee Albrecht (DE), Dafne Boggeri (IT), Monica Bonvicini & Jan Ralske (DE/IT), Gregg Bordowitz, Kaucyila Brooke (USA), Daniela Comani (DE/IT), das em, Katrina Daschner (AT), Natalie Deewan (AT), Kerstin Drechsel (DE), Gerald Grestenberger d-g-v (AT), Matthias Herrmann (AT), IF, Jakob Lena Knebl (AT), Christine Lang (DE), Dorit Magreiter (AT), Bruce la Mongo (AT), Ulrike Müller (AT), Georg Petermichl & Martin Sulzbacher (AT), Fiona Rukschcio (AT), Hans Scheirl (AT), Stefanie Seibold (AT), Sabine Schwaighofer (AT), Viktoria Tremmel (AT), Gitte Villesen (DE/DK), Anthony Wagner (AT), Ming Wong (DE/SGP), z.b.
